Wire baskets fairy lights and a touch of foliage - it's a perfect outdoor lighting solution. With the holiday season coming up I thought it might be nice to create a touch of magic with fairy lights.
I could have just hung and draped them through the wrought iron, but felt there had to be more of a visually interesting approach, so this is what I have come up with, and I feel several of these clustered together on my balcony will look wonderful come the night.
You might also be looking for different ways to create lighting for a wedding outdoors. This concept is so easy to put together and the results are stunning.
You will need:
- 2 wire baskets the same size.
- Battery powered LED fairy lights or similar to suit. I don’t have power on my balcony, so the battery lights work a treat. Mine were 5 meters long.
- Black cable ties
- Little clips made out of fine floral wire to hold the lights/foliage garlands in place.
- I also used several meters of artificial foliage garland. You could use fresh but once this design is in place I want something long lasting.
Method:
Remove the hanging chain from both baskets and set aside.
Ensure that the batteries are inserted into lights. With care, fix battery pack using cable tie to what will be the top half of one of the baskets.
Now bring both sides of baskets together to make a full circle, then use another cable tie to create a hinge opening/closing.
Surround and fix half of the lighting to one portion of the wire basket and as fiddly as this will be repeat on the other inside basket.
Position and fix into place the garland inside baskets on top of lighting.
Don’t worry about being super neat and tidy because the movement
and unevenness of foliage garden will give movement and that natural growth appearance.
Use cable ties to close and bring both baskets together.
Wrap exterior of basket with foliage garland to look as if the completed design is living and growing holding in place with little pieces of fine floral wire.
Re-fix one of the existing basket chains to the top of the sphere as your hanging device. Shorten or lengthen as desired.
