If you are looking for a design with an Italian flare then this may give you a little inspiration!

Things to gather:
Empty olive oil can, with the lid removed. I used a tin opener and it came off easily. If there are any rough bits, close them down with pliers. To give drainage, use a nail and hammer and create several holes. Put a few stones or broken terracotta at the base of tin.

Olive tree. I got mine from the garden centre. Make sure the tree isn’t oversized for the tin. As a general rule the tree should be not
more than twice the height of the can.

You might need additional soil to fill tin.

I found fabric with images of ‘olive oil brands’ which I cut out then fixed to the exterior of printed stock card. Once dry use a punch to thread jute or rope so that images can be suspended from branches.

- A few sprigs of artificial olive branch with berries.
- I made leaves from air dry clay and dusted them with a little glitter to give a Christmas feel, but this is optional.
- Small white pebbles/stones to cover soil: http://amzn.to/1Jzs4NE

Method:

Simply repot olive plant into tin.

Suspend card mounted olive oil branded images to tree along with vein leaves.

Cover top of soil with white pebbles or stones and insert small clusters of artificial olive to create more visual interest.

These would look wonderful running down the centre of a wedding table with runners made of the colours of the Italian flag or perhaps burlap strips. I would place various sized white pillar candles alongside planters.
