You might be asking, why is Astar creating branches with lemons? Well, I’ve had lots of requests asking if I knew where to buy good quality and realistic looking branched lemons. I’ve looked at them on line and to be honest I’m not really that impressed with the quality of the leaves or flowers (most didn’t even have any), and as for the fruit, not really to my liking and nor was the price!
So, after a deep dive into the botanical world and a close inspection of those I grow in my garden, I decided this a great time to share how easy they are to make/create. Once made they make for great stand- alone specimens in a vase or combined with other branched fruit, or combine them with flowers of your choice.
Things to gather –
- Lemons that looked like lemons in either the same size or if possible varying sizes.
- Artificial leaves. As mentioned, it wasn’t until I looked at mine that I actually discovered how clever Nature is. The leaves of a lemon tree actually resemble those of a camellia tree – when it’s nice and healthy.
- Those that yellow off mean the tree needs a good feed of citrus plant food.
- Branches – that’s the next interesting thing about how clever Nature is.
- Tree magnolia or any fruit tree branch works a treat, but it will need to be strong enough to hold the lemons. If it’s too weak they will be too droopy. I found artificial ‘Pussy willow’ to be a fabulous shaped branch.
- The flowers are little white blooms with 5 pointed petals along with yellow stamens. I found mine in the ‘cheap store’, or the other thing I discovered is that if you remove the petals from artificial blossom that too looks a lemon flower.
- Glue gun and sticks and a bit of down time to assemble.
