This request comes from Madeline, who saw a recent design I did featuring large lime green succulents and sword plant with gold-sprayed silver dollar foliage in a gold vase — and wanted to know if she could take that same gold foliage and pair it with white proteas and a few twigs instead. She also asked how to adapt the design as the seasons change into autumn and winter.
My answer, Madeline — if gold is your vibe and it suits your décor or taste, go forth! The real beauty of gold as a colour is its warmth in every single season. It simply never goes out of style.
Today I'm showing exactly how to build this design, plus how to swap a few elements to carry it through into the cooler months.
Things to gather:
- A beige or neutral-coloured vase (gold also works beautifully and ties the white protea into the design)
- 2 large white proteas with their lovely rounded green leaves
- Gum nuts
- Several branches of gold-sprayed silver dollar eucalyptus
- A handful of twisty willow
- For an autumn or winter swap: orange cluster berries, or red berries and a stem or two of rusty red rosehip
