Living Plants & Seasonal Blooms! This design was created in response to a request for something low and shallow, not overly full or expensive, and—most importantly—able to last from season to season. The overall feel is restrained and thoughtful, with a gentle “East meets West” influence.
This style of floral design has long been a favourite of mine and was made iconic by the late, great Constance Spry, whose work celebrated simplicity, structure, and natural beauty.
Things to Gather:
- A low, shallow vase — ideally a 1950s or 1960s–inspired boat-shaped vessel
- Two living plants (I used ficus)
- A small amount of moss
- Seasonal blooms. I used white lily of the valley, which was perfect for lifting the white of the dish and carrying it through the completed design.
