I've been keeping an eye on recent decorating trends, and I've completely fallen for rooms holding court to beautiful artificial trees — blossom trees especially.
Which reminded me of a promise I made to my best friend.
Every year a group of us go away for a few days to my favourite place in New Zealand — Queenstown. The lake, the mountains, the trees, the air… it's magnificent, and the shopping and restaurants don't hurt either. I'm not much of a shopper myself, but I do love looking, and I always find inspiration there. On this last trip, my best friend spotted a blossom tree and said, "Omg, I love that." My mouth said, "I'll make you one." Her room is so large I ended up making her a second to balance it out.
So if you've been wanting a blossom tree of your own, let me show you how easy it is to turn a basic purchased tree into a real statement piece. They're everywhere on the market right now, but most need a bit of extra dressing to really shine.
Things to gather:
- A tree, plus a mixed selection of blossom branches
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Cable ties
- A pot or urn to place the finished tree in
- Foliage or moss to cover the base
